So yesterday my daughter saw a quote by Martin Luther King on one of her facebook friends pages and sent it to me. I immediately reposted it without question. It just seemed like the perfect quote. Ok, so it was just a little too perfect but I didn’t question it. Turns out today it was a fake quote – sort of. Part of the quote was Martin Luther King Jr. but the beginning the quote was apparently just the comments of the person posting the quote. Then, as it can work online, someone saw her comments and quote and copied and reposted it. The break between her comments and the quote were blurred and an Internet sensation took place.
#FAKE QUOTE is now trending online as well. More and more people decided to do a source check because the quote was just a little too perfect. READ THE STORY HERE.
I still like the sentiment and appreciate the words of the original author. But it is a good reminder that online you can’t always believe everything you read – or see.
